April 3, 2014 The Foundation for Springfield Public Schools and the American Red Cross presented Springfield Public Schools with a check for $45,250 toward the SPS Emergency Preparedness Initiative. The American Red Cross gave $25,250 with the Foundation for Springfield Public Schools giving $20,000. In an effort to raise $200,000 to provide Springfield classrooms with emergency kits for teachers and students, the district announced the initiative at the Springfield Chamber’s Good Morning Springfield and challenged other businesses to join this effort with a donation toward funding a classroom or a school. This initiative is a collaboration between Springfield Public Schools, Foundation for Springfield Public Schools, American Red Cross, Greene County Office of Emergency Management, Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce, Springfield Council of PTA’s and SPS Partners in Education.
Donations to the initiative can be made to the Foundation for Springfield Public Schools. For only $250 you can sponsor one classroom and for $5,000 you can help fund an entire school and help ensure our students are safe and protected in the event of an emergency.
